FONPLATA supports new highway interchange in Sacaba, Bolivia
The Development Bank will provide USD 17.8 million for the “Sacaba Highway Interchange Construction and Access Improvement” program, a key initiative to upgrade urban and regional mobility in the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia.
The project, approved by FONPLATA's Board of Directors on July 15, includes two main interventions:
i) the construction of an interchange on Villazón Avenue (Route F04, Main Road Network), which is one of the busiest roads crossing the municipality of Sacaba —to be conducted by the Bolivian Highway Administration (ABC); and
ii) the paving and improvement of Octava Avenue (Municipal Road Network) and its interconnection with Villaroel Avenue, Bolivia Avenue, and Juan José Torrez Avenue, aiming at reducing traffic on Villazón Avenue (Route F04, Main Road Network) and improving service quality. This intervention will be executed by the Autonomous Municipal Government of Sacaba (GAMS) and the Plurinational State of Bolivia will be the borrower.
The operation will be implemented under the Specific Project Program (PESP) modality with a five-year completion period.
These works will directly benefit more than 95,000 people and will help to relieve traffic congestion on National Route F04, in the urban section of the municipality of Sacaba, part of the Bioceanic Corridor that connects Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile.
Besides improving road network, the program incorporates actions to promote gender equality through the installation of safe stops, awareness campaigns, and the participation of women in the works in technical roles.
Furthermore, social and environmental impacts will be properly managed through plans for land expropriation, interference mitigation, and road safety measures.
The operation is part of FONPLATA's Sustainable Debt Framework and contributes to improvements in access to affordable basic infrastructure for vulnerable populations, generating impacts such as shorter travel times, greater road safety for pedestrians and vehicles, and improvements in public transport flow.
