Buenos Aires and Oslo Promote Electric Mobility with Support from FONPLATA

The cities of Buenos Aires and Oslo are launching a technical cooperation to strengthen electric mobility and improve urban transportation with the support and funding of FONPLATA.

The initiative will build technical and institutional capacity through the exchange of knowledge and experience, linking Buenos Aires with Oslo, widely recognized as a global leader in electric mobility.

The cooperation will be conducted by the Ministry of Mobility and Infrastructure of the City of Buenos Aires and will include training sessions, webinars, staff exchanges, and technical visits, as well as the development of recommendations for planning and expanding charging infrastructure. It will also address strategies for electrifying public transport, logistics, and urban service fleets.

The Norwegian Ambassador to Argentina, Halvor Sætre, hosted the Minister of Mobility and Infrastructure, Pablo Bereciartua, and the Vice President of Operations and Countries at FONPLATA, Eliana Dam, for a working meeting. The session was also attended by Ercilia Irene Adén, the Embassy’s Advisor for Commercial, Cultural, and Communications Affairs; Agustín Beccaría, Coordinator of International and Institutional Relations at the Ministry; and María Elena Araneo, FONPLATA’s Head of Operations for Argentina.

The cooperation aims to promote innovative solutions, incorporate new technologies, and improve the efficiency of the transportation system, while fostering the exchange of experiences among cities. The initiative is expected to help consolidate an institutional framework that facilitates the growth of electromobility in Buenos Aires.

Lessons learned and best practices will be shared with other FONPLATA member countries to promote regional replication.

Through this initiative, the Bank reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and to supporting innovative projects that contribute to cleaner, more efficient, and more resilient cities, strengthening the transition toward low-emission transportation systems in Latin America.
