Year-end meeting of FONPLATA's Executive Board: a positive balance
FONPLATA’s Executive Board of Directors held its 198th Meeting on December 18, in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the authorities considered the accomplishments of 2024 as positive and analyzed projects and actions for 2025.
The Executive President and the Vice Presidents highlighted some milestones achieved by the Bank, such as the entry into force of the new Articles of Agreement, approved by the Board of Governors to support the new growth cycle; the approval of the authorized capital increase, that will double the Bank's size; and the authorization to incorporate new members.
During the meeting, the exponential growth in the volume of operations compared to previous years was underlined. FONPLATA reached an all-time high of 14 approvals, totaling USD 765 million, in support of the initiatives prioritized by each member country.
Likewise, the Bank’s financial soundness, the expansion of its network of strategic partners and the diversification of its funding sources were stressed. In 2024, new capital fundings exceeded USD 665 million, of which approximately USD 510 million was structured under the Sustainable Debt Framework.
In terms of strategic collaborations, emphasis was placed on the 11 agreements signed by FONPLATA with key players in regional and global development and on the “Declaration of Sucre” promoted in partnership with other multilateral banks in the region to optimize action on key issues of climate change, regional integration, and support for vulnerable populations.
Concerning its organizational structure, it was pointed out that FONPLATA strengthened its presence in the member countries, with an office in each capital city, to be closer to its counterparts and implementing agencies. In addition, the Bank obtained independent EDGE ASSESS certification, which recognizes its commitment to workplace gender equity. It continues to work towards making its workplace as diverse and equitable as possible.
The meeting was attended by all the member countries’ Executive Directors and Alternate Executive Directors, as follows: Matías Javier Mana and Silvia Pérez for Argentina; Antonio Mullisaca and Juana Patricia Jiménez Soto for Bolivia; Fabio Marvulle Bueno and João Luís Rossi for Brazil; Oscar Pérez and Francisco Ogura for Paraguay; and Fernando Scelza and Valérie Stahl for Uruguay.
