FONPLATA Completes Its Inaugural Uruguayan Peso Bond Issuance and Sets a New Annual Funding Record, Surpassing USD 1 Billion

FONPLATA

FONPLATA – Development Bank successfully completed a new funding transaction under its Medium-Term Note (MTN) Program, issuing a new bond denominated in Uruguayan pesos (UYU), adjusted for inflation, for a total amount of UYU 2.009 billion (equivalent to USD 50 million), with a 10-year maturity and an inflation-linked interest rate of 3.18%.

The transaction marks a new milestone in FONPLATA's funding diversification strategy, as it represents the Bank's first issuance in the currency of one of its member countries. With this transaction, FONPLATA has now issued bonds in seven different currencies, five of which have been incorporated since its inaugural MTN issuance in February 2025, further expanding its access to new markets and investors while strengthening its ability to secure funding under competitive conditions. The entire issuance was acquired by one of Uruguay's leading institutional investors.

Following this issuance, FONPLATA has raised approximately USD 1.018 billion in 2026, equivalent to 91% of its annual Funding Plan, with 96% sourced from the capital markets. As a result, the Bank has surpassed the USD 1 billion annual funding mark for the first time and established a new record, exceeding the previous high of USD 718 million achieved in 2025 by 42%.

"Issuing for the first time in the currency of one of our member countries carries special significance: it represents regional savings financing long-term regional development projects and opens the door to future issuances in other member-country currencies. Surpassing USD 1 billion in funding in a year marked by elevated market volatility confirms that our diversification strategy provides access to resources under competitive conditions", pointed out Matías Mednik, Vice President of Finance at FONPLATA.

These results are particularly noteworthy given an international financial environment characterized by elevated volatility, uncertainty regarding the path of interest rates, and persistent macroeconomic and geopolitical risks. Supported by its A1 rating from Moody's and A+ rating from S&P, this achievement reflects the maturity of FONPLATA's funding strategy and further strengthens its position as an issuer in international capital markets.
