FONPLATA Successfully Completes Inaugural Syndicated Loan for USD 200 million with Strong Market Reception
FONPLATA further advances its funding diversification strategy with the successful signing of its first USD 200 million syndicated credit facility, structured in two tranches: USD 80 million with a five-year tenor and USD 120 million with a seven-year tenor. The full disbursement of both tranches is expected by mid-May.
The facility was structured on a floating-rate basis referenced to SOFR. The five-year tranche was priced at SOFR + 95 basis points, while the seven-year tranche was priced at SOFR + 110 basis points. Both levels represent the most favorable financing conditions achieved by the institution in market-based funding for these tenors and underscore the sustained improvement in funding costs observed recently, in line with FONPLATA’s ongoing efforts to optimize its financial conditions over recent years.
This transaction represents a milestone in the evolution of the institution’s funding strategy, as it marks the first time FONPLATA accesses the syndicated loan market with international financial institutions. In doing so, FONPLATA continues to deepen the diversification of its funding sources, complementing its access to capital markets through bond issuances, as well as financing from development financial institutions and other official entities.
The transaction also enabled the expansion and further diversification of FONPLATA’s investor base, incorporating leading institutions from Asia and Europe, and strengthening its positioning across new segments of the international financial system. This achievement is part of a sustained strategy to build presence in global markets, supported by a value proposition grounded in financial strength, disciplined management, and a robust credit profile.
Additionally, the transaction enhances the institution’s overall balance sheet management by diversifying instruments, maturity profiles, and counterparties, and reinforces FONPLATA’s medium- and long-term funding strategy, providing greater flexibility and resilience in an increasingly dynamic global financial environment.
