FONPLATA supports urban and rural economic development in Atibaia – Brazil

Ph. Prefeitura de Atibaia

The Development Bank will finance the “Urban Development Program for the Municipality of Atibaia/SP – PRODEURB”. The objective of this program is to contribute to the socio-environmental and economic development of that locality by investing in actions to reduce flooding events, improve urban mobility, and provide access to urban recreational parks and public facilities for the population.

The project will be executed by the Public Work Secretariat of the Municipality of Atibaia, located in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, with sovereign guarantee of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The total investment on the program is of more than USD 52.5 million, to be co-financed by FONPLATA, with USD 42 million; local contribution amounts to USD 10.1 million.

The program will improve the accessibility and urban integration of neighborhoods, ensuring greater mobility and reducing vehicle travel times; provide greater safety for the population against flooding during the rainy season through the construction of canals in the municipality's main streams; facilitate and improve access to sports and social facilities; and promote the economic development of local farmers.

At the socio-environmental level, the program fulfills the commitment under FONPLATA's Sustainable Debt Framework, through sustainable management of natural resources, affordable basic infrastructure in terms of transportation and urban development, and access to basic services as recreational infrastructure for the local population.

Thus, it will contribute to reach three of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (SDG-9), “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (SDG-11), and “Life on Land” (ODS-15).
