FONPLATA holds XXVIII Board of Governors meeting in Asunción with historic capital increase

Government of the Republic of Paraguay

FONPLATA – Development Bank held its XXVIII Board of Governors Meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Paraguay, the host country, which also assumed the Presidency of the Bank’s highest governing body following the end of Brazil's term.

The meeting addressed key issues for institutional strengthening and regional integration. Most notably, the Board approved an increase in subscribed capital of more than US$ 3,484 billion, of which US$ 1,181 billion will be available for subscription by new members. This increase—more than doubling the current capital—will allow FONPLATA to significantly and sustainably expand its lending capacity between 2027 and 2036. In this way, the Bank will be better positioned to support the financing needs of its member countries and make an even greater contribution to the region’s integration and development.

In addition, the Governors exchanged initial views on the 2027–2031 Institutional Strategic Plan, identifying priority areas, innovative financial instruments, and reforms aimed at enhancing the Bank’s relevance in the face of sustainable development and regional integration challenges.

As part of the capital distribution in shares, the corresponding certificates for the subscribed and paid-in capital to date were presented to the member countries.

The Bank’s highest governing body agreed on the importance of ensuring that, during this growth phase, FONPLATA preserves its hallmark efficiency and agility, with a strong focus on achieving high-impact results for the development of its member countries.
