Fostering Partnerships at the 54th ASSEMAE National Sanitation Congress

ASSEMAE

As a sponsor of the 54th National Sanitation Congress of the Associação Nacional dos Serviços Municipais de Saneamento (ASSEMAE)—Brazil’s leading gathering of municipal public sanitation services—FONPLATA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening water and sanitation infrastructure and advancing sustainable development in the region.

Held in Caxias do Sul from May 25 to 30, 2026, the event included a meeting of the ASSEMAE Board of Directors, where the Bank presented its mission, financing lines, and cooperation opportunities available to subnational governments and public service providers. The strategic partnership between FONPLATA, ASSEMAE, and the municipal sanitation companies that make up the association was ratified during the meeting.

The agenda also included a meeting with ASSEMAE’s President, Esmeraldo Pereira Santos, and one of its vice-presidents, during which they discussed opportunities to expand collaboration and promote initiatives that help improve access to water and sanitation services across Brazil.

In addition, the FONPLATA team held meetings with several municipal sanitation companies to explore potential investments under non-sovereign-guaranteed financing —approach that broadens the scope of investments aimed at strengthening the provision of essential public services.

The ASSEMAE National Sanitation Congress is one of Brazil’s main forums for technical and institutional exchange in the sector. The 2026 edition brought together public managers, authorities, specialists, researchers, and companies involved in basic sanitation, fostering debate on public policies, technological innovation, and sustainable solutions for the sector.

FONPLATA’s participation in this initiative reflects its commitment to supporting investments that improve living conditions, strengthen urban resilience, and advance more sustainable and inclusive development across the region.
