On June 28, the Institutional Strategic Plan of the Municipality of Itajai, known as PEMI 2040, was acknowledged as one of the best initiatives in the State Power category of the award Prêmio ODS Santa Catarina 2019 (Santa Catarina 2019 SDG Award).

The Prêmio ODS Santa Catarina 2019 is part of the agenda of the Fórum Brasil ODS 2019 (2019 SDG Brazil Forum) and acknowledged the best initiatives to reach the Sustainable Development Goals. The award is divided in six categories: Companies (22 participants); Educational Institutions (7 participants); Unions (7 participants); Civil Society Organizations (17 participants); State Power (11 participants); and Natural Person (5 participants).

It is worth highlighting that the program Itajaí 2040: Moderna e Sustentável (Itajai 2040: Modern and Sustainable), funded by FONPLATA (62.5 million US dollars), is an integral part of PEMI 2040.

The Program shall contribute to improve the quality of life of the population of the Municipality of Itajai, of around 215,895 people, through the execution of urban and socio-environmental infrastructure works, such as paving, bike paths, sidewalks, drainage, and resting and leisure areas. The main results expected are to improve the traffic flow, to reduce flooding areas, to improve the sidewalks features enabling safer circulation for pedestrians and disabled persons, as well as to increase park and garden areas.
