Executive Board Meets in Bolivia and Approves Urban Improvements in Brazil

FONPLATA

On Tuesday, October 7, FONPLATA's Executive Board held its meeting at the Bank’s headquarters in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. Representatives of all five member countries participated in person or online. The purpose of the meeting was to advance strategic decision-making for the financing of projects promoting sustainable development and regional integration.

The approval of the Mobility and Drainage Program for the Municipality of Osasco/SP (PROMOD) was one of the milestones. The program will benefit more than 400,000 people in this strategic city located in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. Despite its dynamic economy and high-population density, one of the highest in the country, Osasco faces structural challenges such as traffic jams, drainage system deficiencies, and climate vulnerability.

With USD 50-million loan from FONPLATA, structural works will be conducted, including the construction of a viaduct for public transport, bike paths, pedestrian crossings, the channeling of the Andradas stream, and road improvements. The project also comprises training and employment programs for women. These interventios are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5, 6, 9, 11, and 13.

The Non-Sovereign Guarantee Operations Policy was also discussed, which seeks to expand the financing modalities available to member countries, promoting greater flexibility and access to resources.

Alongside FONPLATA's executive team, the meeting was attended by the Directors and Alternate Directors, respectively, for Argentina: Matías Javier Mana and Florencia Rosental; for Brazil: Fabio Marvulle Bueno and João Rossi (online); for Paraguay, Oscar Antonio Pérez López and Francisco Ogura (online); from Uruguay, Ariel Cancio and Valérie Stahl (both online), and for Bolivia, only the Director, Antonio Mullisaca.

The meeting reaffirmed FONPLATA's commitment to sustainable development, equity, and regional integration, strengthening its role as a strategic partner of governments in the execution of projects that change lives.
