The development back approved the project which will improve the quality of life for the population of Tubarao, which is a town in the state of Santa Catarina. These works will allow to strengthen the roadway connection and also to adapt the drainage system in order to mitigate flooding. Also, a new bridge will be built, along with bicycle pathways and recreation areas.

In Tubarao the city’s activities revolve around the river that bears the same name and which currently has a population of 100,000 people. The city has been changing and becoming an important hub for education services and trade, and it is undergoing up accelerated growth rate which brings along problems that need urgent answers.

The financing  by the development back to the project of “improvement of roadway infrastructure and urban mobility” for US$ 15.99 million dollars which amounts to approximately 80% of the total cost, will allow the optimization of infrastructure and urban mobility through the execution of different programs.

The investment implies paving of streets as well as the generation of pedestrian sidewalks, as well as the construction of a new concrete bridge, for the crossing of vehicles over the river, with a pedestrian and bicycle pathway, which will improve the connection between the neighborhoods It will expedite daily commuting. Also; a 4 km lineal park will be established parallel to this pathway which  will help to recover and give an added value to the margins of the river through sightseeing pathways and areas for recreation and sports and leisure activities for its inhabitants.

One of the key points of the project is that the works will allow the prevention of flooding in accordance with the municipal “global plan for macro drainage” which seeks to prioritize attention to the most vulnerable areas. In the decade of the 1970s rising water levels from the Tubarao River took dozens of lives and produced the largest exodus of inhabitants in Brazilian history at that location.

This program whose administration and execution of works will be in charge of the municipality of Tubarao contributes to the social economic and environmental development of this population in the state of Santa Catarina on the southern part of the Federal Republic of Brazil.
