At its Montevideo office, FONPLATA welcomed a delegation from the Intermunicipal Public Consortium for Economic, Social, and Environmental Development of the Municipalities of the Jaguarão River Basin in Brazil (CIDEJA). The delegation was led by mayors Luiz Carlos Folador (Candiota), Marcus Vinicius Godoy de Aguiar (Aceguá), and Fernando Campani (Hulha Negra). Representing the Bank were Marcos Acle, Senior Technical Cooperation Specialist, and Juan Montero, Head of Risk. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the technical cooperation project “Via Transcampesina: Rota da Produção e Integração Regional” (Rural Feeder Road for Production and Regional Integration), recently approved by the Bank within the strategic partnership between FONPLATA and FOCEM (MERCOSUR Structural Convergence Fund).

The technical cooperation finances the pre-investment studies for the priority section of the Transcampesina Highway, paving the way for its future submission to FOCEM. This is a crucial step toward a major investment that will strengthen road infrastructure and connectivity in southern Rio Grande do Sul, fostering regional integration and productive development in the border area.

The studies —whose progress was presented during the meeting—encompass traffic analyses, topography, geology, geotechnics, hydrology, geometric design, paving, drainage, signage, environmental aspects, land acquisitions, and construction budgeting, among other technical areas. This technical groundwork will support the development of infrastructure that enhances the mobility of people and goods, strengthens production chains, and creates new opportunities for communities on both sides of the border.
