FONPLATA Participates in Strategic Dialogue on LAC Development Organized by the OPEC Fund and CAF

Held at the OPEC Fund’s headquarters in Vienna, the meeting brought together finance ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean and representatives of the ten institutions comprising the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) to identify concrete investment opportunities and strengthen strategic partnerships between the region and the ACG.

Karina Pereira, FONPLATA’s legal advisor, represented the Bank at the roundtable “Promoting Development and Investment Opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean: Strengthening Partnerships with the Arab Coordination Group.” The session fostered action-oriented dialogue and the identification of concrete investment and financing opportunities aligned with the region’s sustainable development challenges. Discussions focused on priority sectors such as climate change adaptation, energy transition, sustainable infrastructure, food security, and economic diversification.

Members of the Bank’s leadership also took part in several sessions. Viviane Vecchi Mendes Muller, Secretary of International Affairs and Development at Brazil’s Ministry of Planning and Budget and Brazil’s current Governor to the Bank, spoke on the panel “Cities of Opportunity: Unleashing Human Potential.” Martín Edgardo Tolivia, Undersecretary for International Financial Relations at Argentina’s Ministry of Economy and FONPLATA Director, and Juan Benítez Praga, Director of Public Finance for Uruguay and Alternate Director to the Bank, participated in the Forum’s scheduled meetings.

Expected outcomes include the identification of a priority portfolio of projects and financing pathways, as well as the establishment of a structured follow-up mechanism to ensure the continuity of collaboration.

The roundtable was part of the OPEC Fund’s High-Level Events Week, which included the Annual Development Forum and celebrations marking the Fund’s 50th anniversary.
