During the meeting of the Board of Directors, the authorities of FONPLATA, together with the Mayor of Maldonado, Enrique Antía, and the Director of the OSE-UGD (Decentralized Management Unit of the State Sanitary Works), Jesús Bentancur, visited different localities of the department of Maldonado. The Development Bank is having talks with local authorities within the framework of a new water and sanitation operation in Uruguay, for an amount of about USD 55 million.

The priorities of the project are the wastewater treatment plant of San Carlos, the supply of drinking water to Maldonado and Punta del Este, as well as the improvement of pipelines to increase water pressure in various parts of the department.

The Executive President of FONPLATA, Luciana Botafogo, stated that they are working in coordination aiming at starting the execution in the first half of 2024.
