In the presence of President Rodrigo Paz Pereira, national and municipal officials, and representatives of international organizations, the National Emergency Program for Employment Generation — Phase II (BOL-38/2024) was launched. This initiative, financed by FONPLATA and implemented by the National Fund for Productive and Social Investment (FPS), will promote urban infrastructure projects aimed at creating jobs, revitalizing local economies, and improving the quality of life for thousands of Bolivian families.

The program has received up to USD 100 million in financing from FONPLATA and aims to advance urban road infrastructure projects, including the paving of streets and avenues, as well as other initiatives designed to improve connectivity, strengthen territorial integration, and promote economic development in Bolivian municipalities.

During the ceremony, FONPLATA’s Head of Operations for Bolivia, Blas Rozada, highlighted the importance of strengthening urban infrastructure as a tool for creating opportunities and improving the lives of communities.

“With BOL-38, we have reached the fourth edition of a series of FONPLATA support initiatives for urban infrastructure development in Bolivian municipalities, always in partnership with FPS, which serves as an effective executing agency,” he said.

He also underscored the impact of these programs across the country. “More than 280 municipalities—three out of every four municipalities in Bolivia—have benefited from these initiatives. And behind that figure lies much more than just infrastructure: there is connectivity that brings communities closer together and improves quality of life; there is social inclusion, economic activity, and the creation of direct and indirect jobs,” he stated.

The Bank’s representative emphasized that the institution’s commitment goes beyond financing. “For FONPLATA, financing does not simply mean providing resources. It means supporting, being close to the communities, working alongside executing agencies, and helping ensure that those resources effectively translate into opportunities for the people.”

The launch of BOL-38 marks the beginning of a new phase of investments designed to strengthen urban development, promote inclusion, and generate employment throughout Bolivia, thereby consolidating the joint efforts of the Bolivian government, the FPS, and FONPLATA to expand development opportunities for the population.
