FONPLATA approved USD 50 million for urban mobility works in Florianópolis, Brazil
FONPLATA will fund works to improve urban mobility and economic and social development, increasing the population's quality of life in Florianopolis. Located in the southern region of Brazil, it is the second most populated city in the State of Santa Catarina with a population of more than half a million.
There was a significant growth in the city’s population in the last decades due to the high quality of life and the migration of skilled labor. In addition, the city's enormous tourism potential attracts more than 2.5 million visitors each year.
The Municipality of Florianopolis will oversee the program, which will expand and adjust the city's road network and enhance its integration with other municipalities. Some of the main advantages of these works are the reduction of route travel time on road network, the implementation and rehabilitation of sidewalks and bikeways with universal accessibility, and the provision of accessible public areas, such as squares and parks.
This project will be financed through FONPLATA's green and economic reactivation line, and will contribute to SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.
