FONPLATA provides USD 39 million on economic support to promote economic and territorial development in Rio Branco, capital of the Brazilian State of Acre. The program includes infrastructure and sanitation works, which will significantly improve urban mobility, reduce people and cargo travel times, and the vulnerability of buildings to flood damage along the riverbank.

The city of Rio Branco is divided into two large districts by the Acre River. The administrative and commercial centers, universities, and the airport are on the left bank. The right bank houses part of the commerce and industry, as well as the access to the highways through which products and goods are delivered to Bolivia and Peru. The two districts are connected by four bridges, three of which are in the central area of the city.

The program contributes to SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.
