FONPLATA and AESBE Host Strategic Event on Sanitation and Climate Change in Brasilia Ahead of COP30
.
On Tuesday, October 14, FONPLATA and the Brazilian Association of State Sanitation Companies (AESBE) co-hosted the event Saneamento e Mudanças Climáticas (Sanitation and Climate Change) in Brasilia. Held in the lead-up to COP30, the initiative convened national and international authorities to explore the challenges and opportunities of sanitation in the context of climate change.
FONPLATA remains firmly committed to advancing a strategic agenda for adaptation and mitigation, strengthening the role of the sanitation sector in the global climate dialogue. The Bank was represented by Carolina Vera, General Coordinator for COP30, and Oscar Carvallo, Country Coordinator for Brazil, who shared the Bank's perspective on sustainable development and regional integration.
The event featured the launch of the document Sanitation and Climate: Priority Guidelines for the Global Agenda, alongside two thematic panels: one focused on water adaptation indicators and the Plano Clima — Adaptação em Recursos Hídricos (Climate Adaptation Plan for Water Resources), and another on nature-based solutions and decarbonization strategies within the sector.
We celebrate this space for dialogue and collaboration, which underscores the urgency of integrating sanitation into climate policy and advancing toward sustainable solutions for our communities.
