FONPLATA Supports School Meals in Argentina
The Development Bank supported the creation of the first Buenos Aires School Food Service (SAE) Recipe Book, an initiative designed to improve the nutritional quality of school meals, highlight the work of those who prepare them, and revive culinary traditions unique to each district.
FONPLATA's sponsorship enabled the printing of the cookbook with 135 recipes—one from each municipality—and is part of the program for the strengthening of the SAE, which currently reaches 2.5 million students across more than 11,700 schools. This support reflects the Bank's commitment to projects that foster social inclusion and community well-being.
The initiative was developed by the Ministry of Community Development through the SAE Directorate and the Directorate of Nutrition and Food Quality, with support from international organizations such as UNICEF and the IDB. The recipe book complements other SAE policies, including the equipping of more than 7,500 school kitchens and the incorporation of 25 regional nutritionists.
With this effort, the province seeks to ensure safe and nutritious food, recognize the work of school communities, and restore the cultural value of what is cooked and shared in each school dining hall.
